BABIES

i don't have a picture to upload of kelly yet, but she is a total combination of both ryan and emily. i am so happy she is here and healthy. babies are still such a miracle to me. i can't believe that such tiny little things function so well. i already love her so much, and our little family is now complete!

SCHOOLED

yesterday when i was getting ryan ready for church, i told him to "go into mom and dad's bathroom" and brush his teeth. he looked at me and said, "say my." i have been trying not to talk to him like that anymore (using mom instead of my, etc), but i haven't said anything to him about it. i guess he just caught on, and was helping me. yes, i was corrected by my 5 year old! saturday we had our super saturday, and i was on my feet all day. yesterday when i went to find shoes to wear to church, i couldn't comfortably squeeze my swollen feet into any of my cute sandals. so, i decided to wear my flip flops. as i put them on, ryan noticed me and asked me, "mom, are those appropriate shoes for church?" i just started to laugh, and told him that they are when you are pregnant and have swollen feet. what does he know anyway :) i love that boy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS EMILY

i can't believe that my sweet little baby is 3 today! emily brings so my sunshine and laughter (and pink!) into our home. we love her so much! she is our girly girly for sure. anything pretty, she loves. she won't leave the house without her bows, and she loves wearing dresses, and jewelry. she is going to be a great big sister! our family definitely would not be the same without her. we are so lucky that she is ours!

GIRLS ROCK!

we found out today that we are having another girl. i was so excited because that's what i wanted. i thought it would be better to have a girl, so that emily and the new baby would be closer in age. and, my sister is having a girl next month, so they would be really close in age. when i told emily, she didn't really say much. from the beginning, she has told me that it was a girl. ryan, on the other hand was a different story. he about broke my heart. when he got home from school i was showing him all of the ultra sound pictures. then i had him read the one that says "it's a girl." he read it once, and then the second time he almost started crying because he really wanted a brother. i quickly told him how lucky he would be that he would never have to share his boy toys, and that made him feel much better. he then told me that when the baby is older her name would be princess leia, and after she was born it would just be leia. he was totally serious too. i feel bad that he will never know what it's like to have a brother, but he is going to be (and already is) an awesome big brother to 2 little sisters.

KINDERGARTEN!

so my little guy started school today. i can't believe that he is old enough! i was so worried that i was going to loose it this morning. when we went to the open house on saturday, i was crying so hard, i almost started ugly crying. i did start crying on the way to school, but once we got there i was able to stop. ryan seemed so excited and happy to be there, i didn't want to ruin his enthusiasm. he had one moment when i thought he was going to fall apart, but he really surprised me and went right to his class. as he was leaving, emily started crying so hard and screaming, "i want my ryan! i miss him so much!" that made me start crying because i did not expect her to react in any kind of way. all day she kept saying "i miss ryan so much." i missed him too! when we went to pick him up after school, she ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug. that made me cry again. anyway, ryan loved school. he talked about it all day. he even made 2 little friends already. i am so glad that he likes it so much.

SUPERHEROES SAVE THE DAY

ryan's birthday party was so much fun! we defeated the villains with water balloons, silly string, and kryptonite. i made each kid their own cape, and they thought they were pretty neat. it was just about the best 5 year old birthday party i've ever been to, if i so say so myself :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYAN!!!!!!

it seriously feels like ryan was just a baby, and now he is 5 and going to be starting kindergarten (which i am so sad about! i cry every time i think about him being gone all day). ryan is such a sweet little guy, and he is so good to his little sister. he is so into anything that has to do with any superhero, star wars, or indiana jones. yesterday morning when he woke up he said to me, "cat women i would like my cereal for breakfast please." we all get to be different characters everyday. we don't get to choose who we want to be, he chooses for us. he has such a vivid imagination! i love to listen to him when he doesn't know i am around. the things he comes up with just crack me up! ryan is such a special part of our family, and we all love him so dang much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! happy birthday sweet cheeks!!!!!!!!!

HERE FISHY FISHY

i have been wanting to get the kids into swimming lessons for awhile now, but just never really knew where to take them. well, i found out about a lady who lives very close to us that teachers in her own pool in her backyard. i signed the kids up for a 2 week session (8 lessons total). i never thought in a million years that anyone would be able to get the kids to swim that quick, but i just wanted them to get some basic moves. so, after 2 weeks i have 2 little swimmers. wahoo! they way surpassed my expectations, and i couldn't be happier. they never want to wear their floaties anymore. it's hard to watch both of them in the pool at the same time, so we have to put the floaties on sometimes, but they both complain the whole time. i totally believe in swimming lessons now. i am so proud of my little swimmers!!!!

4 + 1 =

5!

so, after 4 miscarriages in the last year, it looks as though this one is really happening. i will be 12 weeks on sunday, and hopefully in the clear. it really doesn't seem real to me (except for the fact i feel so sick all the time), so i haven't let myself get too attached to the idea yet. i am due on jan 10, but i will schedule my c-section for earlier than that. i just feel bad that they will be born so close to the holidays. emily really wants a little sister, and she keeps saying "when my sister gets here...." ryan wants a brother, but i really don't think he cares too much about it. darrel wants a boy too. i would like a girl because my sister is having a girl in sept, and because i love all of emily's old clothes. i will probably end up with a boy just because i want a girl. i guess in the end it really doesn't matter. all i really want is a healthy little baby!

ELATION

this past week, darrel and i got to go on our first ever vacation without the kids. we went on a short little cruise to catalina, on the carnival elation. we were gone the perfect amount of time. i think that if it would have been one day longer, i would have been going nuts. we had a great time eating, relaxing, eating, watching the shows, eating, laying out by the pool, and oh did i mention eating. we didn't really eat that much, but we could have if we wanted to.

you can't really tell, but this is us on catalina island.

we were lucky enough to have a balcony suite on the ship, and one morning there were at least 20 dolphins playing around, right off of our balcony. it was pretty cool to see so close.

every night they do a turn down service, and leave you some kind of animal made out of towels. here are just a few.

this is the ship's atrium. it's hard to believe that it's on a boat. it was huge. and that's not even all of the floors.

oh by the way, thanks mom and dad for flying down to watch the kids. i didn't have to worry at all about them because i knew they would be in good hands. you guys are the BEST!

HANGMAN

today i was playing hangman with ryan on the computer. this was the first time he had played, so i did a few games first to show him how it works. he sat quietly and watched me do a few words. on about the 4th word i was down to my last letter before i lost the game. it had 9 spaces, and i had only guessed correctly the s,b,a,d. i was sitting there for trying to figure it out, and i told ryan that i was probably going to loose this game. just as i got done saying that he said, "it's surfboard mommy!" how on earth did he know that? sure enough, he was right. so, i guess my 4 year old is already a better speller than me. i love that little smarty pants!

EASTER

my brother, sister-in-law, and their 2 kids came down from las vegas for easter weekend. the kids had so much fun together. my sister-in-law and her family (from slc) were visiting also, but they were staying at my in-laws house. all together their were 12 kids. it was a busy weekend. in addition to the egg hunt we had for the 4 kids at my house, we got to go to my in-laws and have one there also. they hid over 200 eggs. the kids buckets were filled to the brim. we also got to go swimming, eat lots of yummy food, and play fun games. i was sad to see everyone go home. it's always fun spending time with family!

coloring eggs

i just thought that this picture was so cute of the girls. they are 4 months apart, and love each other so much! they have another cousin, carly, who is a couple days older than hannah, and the 3 of them get along so well! how fun to have cousins so close in age. ethan and ryan are 1 year apart, and their other cousin, hailey, is 4 months younger than ryan, and they are all good friends too. we wish they could have been with us too.

emily is totally obsessed with being a ballerina now! she has to wear her leotard everyday. i love my little ballerina!

NOT MUCH

i really haven't had much to blog about lately, but thought that i would post some random pictures.

we went to westgate last saturday and had lunch at margaritaville (won't go there again!). it was kinda fun to walk around, and the kids loved these huge waterfalls they had.

ryan got to go on a field trip to cold stone (yummy). he got to pick out his topping, and then mix in the ice cream. he thought it was pretty cool. you can't really see in these pictures, but he got a major shiner the other day at school. a little girl ran into him. it actually happened a few weeks ago, and we can still see it now. OUCH!

this was a cool volcano that ryan made in school. ryan thought it was pretty neat when it was erupting.

this is how i find the kids when they are watching shows lately. they like to be right next to each other. you can tell it is morning time bacause emily isn't dressed and is waiting for me to get her a dress. every morning she wakes up, and first thing she does is take off her pj's and tells me to get her a dress to wear.

i thought this was a cute pic of em. this is one of the few times i could actually get her to wear pants. i think she looks so grown up. you can almost tell what she is going to look like as a teenager.

this is how emily was wearing her shoes the other day. on the wrong feet, and in between the wrong toes.

a few weeks ago my parents were here visiting. they just so happened to be here on the exact same day of my dad's accident a year ago. my dad still can't remember anything about the crash. he wanted to go and see exactly where it was that it happened. the top picture is where darrel and david found him under the atv. the bottom picture is of him in icu. that was a horrible thing to go through, and we are so glad that we still have him around (even with his brain damage as he calls it). i guess he isn't the same as before, but as long as he is still alive we are so happy he's still with us (and he isn't as bad as he thinks he is. he is only a little embarrassing at times :)).

OUR TRIP

we had such a great little vacation! it was the first trip without any melt downs from the kids. they both were so good, and had so much fun. ryan was finally tall enough to go on all of the "big kid" rides, and he couldn't get enough. i asked him which ride was his favorite and he said, "probably splash mountain because of the 50 foot plunge." he went on it about 8 times. i think the longest line we waited in was about 15 minutes. it was the perfect time of year to go (and the weather was absolutely beautiful too). we went to disneyland so i could get in free on my birthday. when we got our passes they gave me a big button that said "happy birthday amy" on it. i was reluctant to wear it, but put it on anyway. there were so many other people with their b-day buttons on, that i didn't feel that dumb. it was kinda fun having everyone and their dog wishing you a happy birthday. i highly recommend going on your b-day!

emily got so excited when she saw minnie. she didn't want to leave her. she kept saying "bye bye minnie mouse", and blowing her kisses. she also loved going on all of the rides, and seeing all the princess stuff everywhere. her favorite ride was the peter pan ride. she still talks about it everyday.

i absolutely love this picture of her on the tea cups. it's so hard to get a real smile out of her, and you can just see the pure joy in her face as we were spinning around.

ryan got to drive car by himself, and he thought that was pretty neat.

the day after disneyland, we drove down to san diego to spend the rest of our trip, and see some of our friends. friday morning we decided at the last minute to go to sea world. we have NEVER had a good experience with the kids there. we have been about 5 times since ryan was little, and every time we say we will never go back (it's not sea world, it's that one of the kids has always been sick, or behaving really badly). well, i am happy to report we had a fantastic time (despite it being 84 degrees and no summer clothes, or sunblock... our sea world souvenir was a $15 can of 30 spf). it was not crowded a bit there either. with our admission tickets, we got a pass to go back as often as we'd like through all of 2009. we will be able to fly in for the day and go whenever we feel like it. the walrus in the picture above was HUGE! it was so cool to be so close to him (or her). he kept doing laps, and would come right over to the window and press up against it as he turned around. the kids got a kick out of it.
.
on saturday, we met up with some of our friends at went to old town. they have a little mormon battalion craft thing every year. we got to roast biscuits over the coals, pan for gold, make pioneer dolls, make old pioneer toys, and see what it was like to do wash, just to name a few. it was fun, and interesting. i don't know how the pioneers did it.

our hotel room in san diego was great! it had bunk beds in a separate room for the kids, and they loved them. it was so nice to spend time together, and to catch up with all of our friends. we were really our vacation had to come to an end.

this is how ryan's hair looked most mornings because of the humidity or something. it cracked me up! i couldn't get his hair to do this if i tried. it really has a mind of it's own.
